The news and headlines that grabbed our attention this past week:
Microsoft’s Surface Tablet RT: How it Compares to the iPad via Mashable: Microsoft is making the bold move of stepping into the tablet hardware game with their newly-announced Surface tablet. Here’s a great side-by-side comparison of Surface and the hometown team, aka the iPad.
Pinterest Has Users, Fancy Has a Business Model via Adweek: Brands gravitate to Pinterest because its users’ pinboards represent purchase intent, but in February, the startup Web application Fancy closed the loop by actually letting its users buy the products they “fancied” (its version of the pin, or like), and rolled out the e-commerce capability to its iPhone app a few weeks ago.
Square Introduces a Digital Loyalty Card via New York Times: Square, the mobile payments start-up, thinks it has come up with another good reason to buy things with a smartphone instead of cash or a credit card. Its apps now allow shoppers to carry around a digital loyalty card, a replacement for the cards that get punched — buy 10 coffees and get the next one free.
Flipboard Comes to Android via Mashable: After months of anticipation, Flipboard has arrived on Android smartphones, Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Barnes & Nobles’s Nook tablets. The app has also been optimized to include content from users’ networks on YouTube and Google+. The move to Android comes after Apple named Flipboard one of its favorite apps of 2010. It’s definitely one of our favorites!
